LUIS GONZALEZ PALMA
Luis
Gonzalez Palma poses models and props for his photos. He uses imagery
evocative of social, political, and personal themes associated with
his home, Guatemala. His photos have an inescapable, haunting sadness
about them, made more poignant through his techniques. Gonzalez Palma
colors his black and white photos with sepia tones, and often alters
them in other ways as well. In many of his photos of models, he scratches
away the whites of their eyes until only the startling white paper
remains, illuminating the expressions inherent in their eyes. Gonzalez
Palma also works with some collage elements-- sometimes he reassembles
his photos or combines them with other images.
