Bill Witt

Bill Witt was born in Newark, New Jersey in 1921. Growing up in the depression, Witt was inspired by the great documentary photographers of the Farm Security Administration. He joined and exhibited with the Photo League until its demise in 1951. Witt studied photography with Paul Strand, Alexey Brodovitch, and at the Clarence White School. He studied art with Hans Hoffman at the Art Student's League. Since the beginning of his career in 1947, Witt has continued to produce some of the most sought-after images in photography. His work is in many private collections, as well as, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Hallmark Collection, the Smithsonian Institute, and many University museum collections. |
