Tanya Marcuse

A.A. Simon's Rock College of Bard (1983); B.A. Oberlin College (1985); M.F.A. Yale University School of Art, Photography (1990). Ms. Marcuse has received awards and honors including a 2002-03 Guggenheim Fellowship, a 2003 Anson Kittredge Grant, a Thomas J. Watson Fellowhip, as well as fellowships from the Center for Photography at Woodstock, and the Dutchess County Arts Council. She is the recipient of a National Foundation for the Advancement in the Arts Award, and the George Sakier Memorial Prize for Excellence in Photography from Yale. Her work has been included in group shows at the Corcoran, the New Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Alternative Museum. Reviews of her work have appeared in the New York Times, New York Magazine, the Village Voice, Artnews, Art in America, Photo-eye, Photography Quarterly, PDN, Art Issues and Artforum. Her photographs are in the collections of the Corcoran Museum of Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Yale Art gallery, and The Library of Congress. Ms. Marcuse has taught at SUNY - Dutchess, the Center for Photography at Woodstock and at Vassar College; she currently teaches photography at Simon's Rock of Bard College. A book of her new prject, Undergarments and Armor, has just been published by Nazraeli Press. The project is the recipient of the 2005 JGS Book Project Award, an award created to support visionaries working in the medium of photography. |
