Having a BA in English and a MFA. in photography (both from Stanford) make Peter Brown an unlikely candidate to fight the battles of the American farmer, however his geological as well as sociological concerns are more than evident in his The Great Plains series "This mix of need, space, weather and history has created a landscape and a culture that seems metaphorically American to me: an energetic mix of openness, high spirits, tenacity and care." He has won various awards and has had numerous exhibitions in America and abroad. His work is in many museum collections. The Great Plains series will be published in the spring of 1999 by Doubletake/Norton.
